Fusion: a study of overkilll
have you seen the commercial?
"witness the power of FUSION" what th'hells that supposed to mean? it's a frickin' razor.
if you think about the evolution of shaving, from ancient times when some bronze age genius accidently (or maybe out of curiosity, perhaps testing the sharpness of his blade) scraped off a chunk of beard with his hunting knife, to this... Fusion thing, we passed the point of usefulness three blades ago.
over the course of said evolution most of the steps have been logical and practical. the Fusion razor defies both. two blades i could understand, three i could tolerate, four was pushing it, but five is just too much. when will it end? will there be a sixth blade in the future of men's shaving? a seventh? a twenty third?
the first major step up from the hunting knife had to be the straight razor. not much of a step, i admit, but at least you couldn't stab someone with it and it folded (men like tools that fold). true, you could still slice someone's neck open, and the hunting knife soon gained equal footing with the invention of the pocket knife, but that's where they part ways.
the safety razor, which quickly replaced the straight razor as the shaving impliment of choice, was completely devoid of any knife-like similarities. true, you could still take the razorblade out and slit your wrist (and many people did), but otherwise it lived up to it's name.
to solve the problem of razor assisted suicides the disposable razor came on the scene. no longer removable, there were better means of ending your life than razors. left with no other stigmas to overcome the evolution of the razor starts listing towards the insanity of what we have now by adding a second blade. boosted by a clever (and therefore seemingly logical) ad campaign the double blade razor takes off in popularity. from there it's just a slippery slope of shaving gel to the pit of idiocy that is.. Fusion.
stop the madness.. get an electric razor.
