BtVS: The Dark Age

postit: since this episode centers around Giles there will be no Giles Report for this post.

he was twenty-one, studying history at Oxford, and, of course, the occult by night. he hated it. the tedious grind of study, the overwhelming pressure of his destiny. he dropped out, he went to London and fell in with the worst crowd that would have him. they practiced magicks. small stuff for pleasure or gain. then he & Ethan discovered something... bigger. Eyghon, the dreamwalker.

jump ahead 20 some odd years to Sunnydale California. Eyghon is back and out for blood, but before we get into the nitty gritty darkness that lurks beneath Giles' tweed coated past. let's start with some good news. Giles and Jenny have their first kiss, and with promises of weekend.. uh, sqirming that's the end of the good news this episode.

also making a return appearance this episode is Ethan Rayne. as mentioned earlier Ethan was part of the "worst crowd" that Giles hung around with in London, back in his Ripper days. Eyghon is hunting down members of the group who became initiates back in the day, lead to them by a tattoo on their arm (yes, Giles has a tattoo). in an attempt to avoid his date with fate, Ethan tattoos the mark on Buffy's neck then pours acid on his to throw Eyghon off his trail and on to Buffy's. a ploy which almost worked but for the intervention of Giles, who means to sacrifice his life to save Buffy, only to be saved himself by Willow and Angel. but i'm getting ahead of myself. i should mention that at one point in the library after Giles' old buddy Phillip dies (while possessed by Eyghon) the demon is passed to Jenny. that being said, Giles selfless sacrifice is not only to save his Slayer, but to save Jenny by taking the demon into himself.

without spoiling the ending too much, let's just say that Jenny is saved, and Eyghon is destroyed. if you didn't expect that much to happen then you probably shouldn't be watching the show anyway. however, this whole incident put the kabosh on any chance of weekend squirming. squirming denied.

then, just before the credits roll we discover a bit about Giles' taste in music when he says the Bay City Rollers are real music. not exactly the type of music you would expect the "worst crowd" to listen to.

Buffy Report: in lieu of the Giles Report, tonight Buffy got knocked out by Ethan Rayne so he could tie her up and tattoo our Slayer. sadly she had to give up a weekend shopping spree to get it removed.
