BtVS: Bad Eggs

with two of our favorite shows premiering tonight (Ghost Whisperer & NUMB3RS- both are excellent shows and i highly recommend them) we only had time for one episode of Buffy, but it's just as well Bad Eggs is the last episode on Disk 3 which means we're halfway through season 2. like every season of Buffy the second half is where they start focusing on the main story arc and things really start happening.

tonight's tale begins with a trip to the mall. Joyce (Kristine Sutherland) sends Buffy to pick up her dress while she goes to the printer and picks up their dinner (mall food, yummy). on her way to 'everyday woman' aka mumus r us, Buffy spots a vampire hugging a girl on the escalator. she follows the couple to an arcade (which is already closed) and saves the girl from becoming a snack. she forgets to pick up mom's dress, which prompts Joyce to give her a lecture about responsibility.

after the credits, we join Xander and Cordy in the janitor's closet smooching. their's is one of the most unlikely relationships of the series, yet as weird as it is it makes sense. cut ahead to teen health class where this week we're studying sex and the inevitable reprocussion thereof... parenting. the class will be participating in the time honored experiment egg parenting. everyone is paired off and given an egg to raise (except Buffy who's absent).

after class Xander & Willow hook up with her in the library where she and Giles are researching the vampire she fought at the mall. he turns out to be Lyle (along with his brother Tector) Gorch. a couple of redneck Texas vampires who slaughtered an entire mexican village in the late 1880s (and that was BEFORE they became bloodsuckers).

that night Buffy is supposed to search for the Gorchs (with Angel's help) but they just end up smooching the night away while the Gorchs look on wondering why 'Angelus' is kissing the Slayer.
Jump ahead to Buffy preparing for bed and going over her checklist for 'Eggbert'. she goes to sleep and Eggbert pokes a hole through the shell and, with its spindlly lavender tenticles attaches itself to Buffy's face.

the next day teen health has been cancelled for the day because Mr. Whitmore is absent.

anyway, to cut a long story short (mainly because, like most of the 'filler' episodes, it's not as important as the main elements) the eggs turn out to be the spawn of a bezour, which is a prehistoric parasite that lays eggs, and then the baby bezours attach themselves to hosts whom they use to harvest the eggs.

now, what's really important about this episode is: Willow and Buffy notice that Xander and Cordy are acting weirder than usual, Buffy and Angel are making more and more kissy face, and Joyce is showing up in more and more episodes. hrmmm, and where is all this leading, one might ask? i'm not tellin', yet anyway.

Giles Report: just about everyone, including Giles, is knocked out at one point or another in this episode. Willow and Cordy knock out Buffy and Xander and leave them in a closet with two bezour eggs ready to hatch. Joyce, Giles, and several of the faculty and student body of Sunnydale High faint when Buffy kills Mommy Dearest (the bezour mommy, not hers). Xander knocks out Cordy in the basement while she's transporting eggs. everyone gets some of the action except Angel. although he gets some with Buffy smooching her through her window after Joyce grounds her to her room.

Jonathan Watch: this poor kid is always in the wrong place at the wrong time. in this episode he gets a bezour hatchling attached to his spine and leads Buffy and Xander straight to dear old mother.
